Darn Goats

Wed Dec 2, 2009, 12:30 PM
I saw the movie Men Who Stare at Goats recently. Really good movie. Ever since then I have been obsessively hunting down the book to read. It was not at the library and I did not want to shell out the money to buy it. Plus, I own a lot of books I haven't read and did not want to contribute to my growing materialism. Books on CD are really good for that, especially programs which work like the Netflix rental system. I had actually subscribed to one of those services for about two months. It was great, I loved it, but I was broke and couldn't justify spending $15.00 a month for it. Then I bought an mp3 player online. I found that $30 for a 4gig Sony thingy was too good to pass up. Now I am obsessively trying to find audio books to fill it up with. Problem is most of the torrent producing world does not read books as much as they watch movies. I fell back on tried and true P2p program DC++. It is the most aggravating pain in the ass P2P program I have ever had the misfortune of coming across, but I can usually find what I am looking for if I search hard enough.

The reason it is so frustrating is because in order to do any searches the user has to be connected to a hub. Most of the time the hubs require ridiculous requirements like you have to have 10gigs of share worthy material or you have to register with them. It didn’t use to be this bad you could connect to one or two hubs and get everything you needed. Now you have to connect to thirty or forty. I found a DC++ multi hub search though. It was a demo program, but did a cross search of hundreds of hubs. If the stuff I was searching for wasn’t so hard to find I think the program might have been useful to me.

After much crying because of hubs which required me to jump through hoops to do searches, I found an entire UK hub dedicated to audio books. There are users with over 1 terabyte’s worth of audio books on their computers. That’s not Gigabyte with a g that is terabyte with a T. Yet, none of those users had book I wanted. I eventually did a torrent search on Google and found it, so worth the two nights of agony searching. Any book which begins with a true story about a general trying to phase through a wall is a sign of literary greatness.

Let's tie Sasuke to a tree!
With a giant club :threaten:, and some hard whacks to the head,
That damn Uchiha's finally dead :dead:

We're as deep into the pits as we can get. All there's left to do is climb up.
